Your calm response is one of the best tools you have. Setting limits on disrespectful behavior is important, but yelling back rarely helps. Taking breaks, using quieter tones, and returning to the conversation later can keep conflict from spiraling.
Teaching Healthier Ways to Express Anger
Teens can learn to name feelings, take time-outs, use movement to discharge energy, and repair after arguments. These skills develop slowly and often with the help of a counselor or mentor.
When Anger Signals Something Deeper
If anger is constant, extreme, or linked to self-harm, threats, or violence, it may be a sign of deeper emotional distress. Therapy can help uncover and address what is really going on.
